I just purchased a brand new WD Caviar Green 3TB SATA drive. We have tried everything possible to get it to show the full 3TB capacity but it only show 746gb. Can somebody help me please? Some people said that it work with Linux see the link http://www.technolifestyle.com…with-large-capacity/#more Thanks

What is the version of your image? Harddisks that big are supported since a short time only. And you need to create a swap to be able to format the disk in the box...

You should always add information about your current DMM firmware.
Otherwise it is pure guessing about the possible problems. The symptom looks like that there is an arithmetic overflow and the
size of the disc is recognised modulo 32 bit.
Do you experience the same problem when you attached the disc to
a PC running a current Linux? If yes, this could be caused, if the disc is not using 4k sectors but
512bytes. Then the number of sectors would exceed 2 ^ 32 and cause
the overflow.
You would need a DMM firmware able to handle GPT (GUID Partition Table),
because the number of 512bytes sectors on a 3TB disc exceeds the
data type size of a partition in a "conventional" partition table.
And this has (nearly) NOTHING to do with the cluster size of the
filesystem you install and can NOT be prevented by using a bigger
size per sector while formatting.
Unfortunately I can't tell you, if there IS currently a DMM firmware able
to handle GPT (maybe one will also need a second stage bootloader able
to handle GPT as well).
Maybe your disc has jumpers for emulating 512bytes sectors? If yes,
REMOVE them and repartition the disc manually for handling 4k sectors. If this disc is recognised by a current Linux with full capacity (without
repartitioning), your DMM firmware is not recent enough. Rumors say,
that the current releases can handle discs bigger than 2TB. -

OS, so I have ask some questions maybe somebody can help me. I don't know
exactly the DMM firmware, but can you tell me please where can I have a look in
my DreamBox and I will write you back the version of my firmware. If I’m not
wrong I can find the version of the firmware on setup/about. I’ll have a look.
I have a [Moderator] Image is in violation of the Boardrules [/Moderator].No the hard disk doesn’t have any
jumper.Thanks a lot ,again -

Hi, the think is that i have formated the disk but doesn't format more than 746GB, You said that I have to do a swap of some file? I don't know much of Linus OS but I know a lot of window so if you can tell me step by step I am able to do myself. Thanks for your help. My image is Nabilo BlackHole v0.12 Thank -
Nabilo is not a DMM firmware so you can't get any support here.
Ask the guys from ****** or install the newest Image from http://www.dreamboxupdate.com/…eambox/1.6/dm8000/images/.

harddisk, Error: Creating partition failed'' What can i do with this
hard? -
Download a recent Linux Live CD (e.g. System Rescue CD or Ubuntu 10.4),
connect the disc to a PC and start the PC from the CD.
Then create one partition and format with filesystem "ext3" and label as
"hdd".
Create one folder named "movie" as user root.
Now put the disc back into the Dreambox.
