When I check the meminfo this is what I get:

so, it looks like there is a total of almost 44MB memory in 7025.
But the data sheet on the main site satates that this unit has 128MB of DDR RAM? why?
Total Memory???

Hi, this is with latest CVS update from yesterday.
(I think there was a kernel update too)Code

But the data sheet on the main site satates that this unit has 128MB of DDR RAM? why?It has, but only a part of the RAM is accessible for the OS

So, kernel bug? I have nother Linux box here and it is runing Kernel 2.4. Here is what that box says:
[root@************ root]# more /proc/meminfo
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 4105748480 4085874688 19873792 0 169328640 1024430080
Swap: 4359389184 1351680 4358037504
MemTotal: 4009520 kB
MemFree: 19408 kB
MemShared: 0 kB
Buffers: 165360 kB
Cached: 999100 kB
SwapCached: 1320 kB

Inactive: 1030844 kB
HighTotal: 1048000 kB
HighFree: 2044 kB
LowTotal: 2961520 kB
LowFree: 17364 kB
SwapTotal: 4257216 kB
SwapFree: 4255896 kB[root@************ root]# kernelversion
2.4
--------------------------------------------------------So, this box has no problems with accessing 4GB of RAM. I don't know why the DB should have any problems accessing 128MB?

The Dreambox has a unified memory architecture (like Xbox etc.. - quite normal in embedded devices), so the framebuffer, mpeg decode buffers etc. are also contained in the RAM.
Is there a reason that you require more ram? Otherwise we could just patch /proc/meminfo to display bigger numbers
-
Well, not an immediate need yet. I was fooling around with the kernel and stumbled over this and wanted to make sure that I understand all the aspects of it.

hi music bob - or anyone who can help me out of my ignorance
===========================================your machine's showing 90+ mb of memory and mine only a good 40+...
very frustrating, I'm investigating this all weekend....
could this have to do with a patch to the secondstage bootloader that you mentioned?
I've used multiboot to install a new image but that does not replace the bootloader if I see it correctly..
What is the best way forward to ensure my 2nd stage bootloader is up-to-date (I guess it is part of the latest dream 2.10 nfi image that I downloaded..?).
One way I can think of is using dreamUp to flash this image - however that requires a serial cable which I still have not been able to connect (let me get the right cable for it if that is the only solution),
Please let me know, any info appreciated,
Leon
