Strange output when flashing DM800

  • Hi all
    I have a problem with flashing a DM800.
When I connect a terminal to the DM serial port and flash it via WebInterface, I get this output:

    finished.

Now my question is, is the flash memory broken ?? Due to the text marked in RED
What can I do to fix it ??

  • Well, do you have any problems after flashing?

That this kind of flash-memory sometimes has some bad-sectors is normal and not really bad. It will mark those sectors as "bad" and not use them anymore. You probably just lose a few bytes of free-space, but that should not hurt you.

  • Hi Homey
Yes I have problems after flash, BUT NOT all image...
I think it depends of the image size...

I have tried PP 1.3.2 which is almost 52MB and boot after flash fails. It boots up but hangs after 3/4 of the progress bar...

Original or other smaller image is no problem...

That was why I suspected the FALSH RAM to be faulty....
I think that I once read that you could "cleanup flash" without destroying the installed image, do you know how to do that.....

  • Not really. but you can enable that option to "repair" bad sectors in flash when using DREAMUP or in BIOS of Box is also an option for this that it will check for bad sectors when flashing image next time. It will then check each sector the flash memory and if it finds a bad one, it will try to repair it or mark it as "bad" so it will not get used anymore. So it's not really a problem ... if you only a have a few bad sectors ... if you have hundreds/thousands of bad sectors, you would have a problem but not because 1-2 bad sectors, that's normal for flash-memory
