i have a dm 500 hd and just bought a wd esata external hdd ,connect it to the box went into menu -> setup -> system but there is no hard disk
option as the manual , what im doing wrong can someone please help

Afaik the 500HD doesn't support hotplugging (at least the 800 doesn't)... so try to reboot
