Not sure if this really says anything, but this is as far as the logging goes before it freezes during boot (sorry for the long post):

I don't know what special treatment it is getting, but it doesn't seem to be working...

I have had the exact same issue, and it degraded over time, to the point where no HD channels were working any longer. A couple of months later (only watching SD) the box stopped booting and would shut itself off just after "Dream Multimedia" was displayed in the LCD. The only thing that would make my box boot was when I removed the tuner, so I figured it was the cause of the problem. Having a bought a new tuner now it seems there are other problems as well. I get to what I think is the same place where the box would shut itself off, but now it just hangs forever with the red LED lit.

Since the box needed to "heat up" before, I suspect soldering is bad somewhere, unfortunately. Did you ever solve your problems?

I have been running the 28/5 drivers for over a week now and whereas I had drop outs several times a day before, I have yet to have any with the new drivers. In other words, the situation has improved greatly. I will report back should it start to occur again.

If I open a ticket and send my box to DMM (knowing that they currently cannot reproduce this problem) am I guaranteed to get a replacement box or a new motherboard fitted? I do not want to have my box sent back untouched with a message that nothing is wrong with it...

As many of us are having problems with newer drivers I would like to ask DMM to compile the 20090907 drivers for the 2.6.18 kernel. That way we (who are having problems) can stay up to date with the rest of the development, while running the old dvb drivers. It would be a nice workaround until the problems are solved.

    Please!

Let me play the detective here. Given the evidence in the reports in the threads it should be possible to narrow down the list of possible causes considerably. We know that the HDMI signal is not completely lost. It is still there, since switching to another input on the television and back also brings back the picture. We also know that the problem cannot be reproduced reliably at the same point of a recording, so it cannot be anything in the DVB stream directly causing it. Reasonably, that should point us in the direction of two possible causes:

    A) There is a brief moment for which no data at all is sent in the HDMI stream. Sensitive televisions interpret this as a loss of signal and the screen goes black. Is there some kind of resynchronization going on behind the scenes, perhaps when two different time sources drift too far apart, during which nothing is sent over the HDMI stream?

    B) Out-of-protocol data is sent in the HDMI stream. Sensitive televisions freak out when they see something they do not recognize and the screen goes black. Were any new buffers introduced that could possibly overrun, producing garbage/null values in the HDMI stream?

Further, we know for a fact that the problem was caused by a change after 20090907, or that it was extremely rare before that. If there is any chance that something appears in the log when the problem occurs I would be happy to help, provided that someone can give me the details of how to set it up.

bin von dieser problem nie betroffen. hab auch 800er mit hdmi an samsung.

man sollte ja die treiber nicht einzeln installieren,

also am besten gleich image neu flashen dann melden.

Either some dreamboxes are not affected by the problem, some televisions are not affected by the problem, or some channels/providers are not affected by the problem. You should be happy that you're one of them. If you read the thread carefully you will also see that people have tried flashing different versions of the experimental images and the problem still arises.

I tested the 20091005 driver again, and after about 20 minutes I lost the HDMI connection. Trust me, 20090907 works, 20091005 has the problem.

    root@dm800 ~ # lsmod | egrep "^bcm7401"
    bcm7401 3156272 29 - Live 0xc03fd000
    root@dm800 ~ # md5sum /lib/modules/2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800/extra/bcm7401.ko
    c324c120bdb3962f3b6ffb3bbd28fa17 /lib/modules/2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800/extra/bcm7401.ko
    root@dm800 ~ # ipkg list_installed | grep dvb-modules
    dreambox-dvb-modules - 2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800-20091005-r0 - Hardware drivers for Dreambox

I use ipkg to upgrade/downgrade the driver, and I reboot the box for it to take effect.

I have been running 20090907 for two weeks without any connection losses, so I can safely say that it is working. The television is a 40" Sony KDL-W4000 LCD.

    Other tested drivers:
    20091005 - frequent connection losses
    20091013 - frequent connection losses
    20091223 - frequent connection losses
    20100104 - frequent connection losses
    20100117 - frequent connection losses

The problem occurs both on SD and HD channels. Toggling the power button on the dreambox remote, or switching HDMI input back and forth on the tv gives me picture again.

    Hi,

lasa: can you try if the problem even happens with TV4 Plus recordings?

    thx

I started a recording and waited for the problem to occur. Once it did I stopped the recording and played back the section where the problem had occured, but I cannot reproduce it using the recording. Does that answer your question?

Do "ipkg list_installed | grep dvb-modules", if it's not the correct one do "ipkg -force-downgrade install dreambox-dvb-modules_2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800-20091005-r0_dm800.ipk".

I installed the 20091005 driver and watched "TV4 Plus" on Sirius 4.8E, where the problem is quite frequent. After 30 minutes the problem was there, something in the HDMI signal caused the TV to lose the picture. Using the remote to switch to another HDMI input on the TV and back resolves the problem and I have picture again. With the 20090907 I had no problems for two days before testing this.

Since the problem occurs about once per hour for me, and consistently so, I could try logging. How do I set it up? I'm guessing I need to hook up my null modem cable, start some terminal program on the computer and switch on debugging in the image?

I used to get drop outs at a rate of about one per hour and now the TV has been on for 24 hours straight without a problem. I'm quite confident to say that downgrading to the september drivers solved the problem. I hope that's a hint to the developers, so that they can look into what parts of the code they've changed since september...

I am using the following driver: dreambox-dvb-modules - 2.6.12-5.1-brcmstb-dm800-20091223-r0 and the problems are still present on my Sony Bravia KDL-W4000 LCD television. Prior to the october updates of the drivers I never had any problems. I've switched cables and switched connection on the TV to eliminate them being the problem. Where can I get hold of an old IPK so I can downgrade the drivers until this is fixed?

Edit: Found a september driver here http://dreamboxupdate.com/open…x/1.5/dm800/experimental/ and downgraded. Will post back if that solves the problem.
