gmack, quite stuck here i am afraid.

i have tried to install both your drivers and get the same result.
    - i copied the files into the directories you specified.
    - i modified the rt2870sta.dat file for my specific config

    - i type the command "modprobe rt2870sta" and the prompt simply returns.
    - i type the command "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" and am returned: -

    - i type the command "ifconfig" and am returned

    - I go into the System, Network configuration and it only sees the eth0.
    - i restart the network and re-enter the System, Network configuration and it see eth0 (enabled) and ra0 (disabled)
    - i enable the ra0, and set the configuration (it does not recognise any configs in the dat file).
    - i scan the wireless lan and can see a number of networks including mine.
(however, mine shows as 54Mg rather than 802.11n - which it is)
    - i save the setting without activating.
    - i disable the eth0 and activate the network settings
the machine crashes with an Engima2 crash and then reboots.

Don't know if you did the original compiling of these drivers, but if so, there are new versions that may help?

I got the following info from "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices"

It means my EdiMax 7718 is being recognised right?

But iwconfig is not recognising the config.

    help please.
    mucho grasias

very, very frustrating for a newbie. i have managed to get the build-ipkg script figured out but have discovered the busybox binary on the dreambox does not support the create functions in the "ar" command.

would really appreciate if a linux guru could help put the above driver in an ipkg format for me pls.

i would love to give you some feedback, but haven't figured out how to install yet  sorry, i have very little knowledge of linux/unix.
I am trying to install the wlan-rt2870_WPA_support_untested on a genuine dm800 with a nabi image - but there is no install command.

    Halo,

I am not a Linux person, but i try to use the RT73 driver below as the basis for guiding me to construct a new driver for the RT 2870.
    http://sources.dreamboxupdate.…lan-rt73_1.0-r3_dm800.ipk

I would really appreciate some help to compile the below driver into a RT2870.ko file.
    http://www.edimax.com/images/I…inux_STA_v1.4.0.0.tar.zip

I would do myself, but am not sure where to begin and in particular don't know the "platform" type to use in the makefile.
I understand this driver is included in the 2.6.27+ Linux Kernel, so it seems odd that Dream still don't update their kernel and support more common hardware.
802.11n has already been around for a long time.

    Information
    Product Name DM800
Booloader version Dreambox Second Stage Loader BUILD #72, built 20090303
    Flash Size 64 MB
    Production Date (YYYY/MM/DD) 2008/11/25
    mID 13
    Serial Number 54860
    MAC Address 00:09:34:28:ae:1f
    Printed Serial Number 8B2513000054860

This is the info i can get from the release-candidate-dm800_20090310.nfi image that i can get to install.
As i understand it, this wouldn't work if the box was a clone because the boot loader is >70 ???

Can anyone help me to understand why this is not accepting software updates from this version or later images please.

After repeat attempts with different versions, i can manage
    to install this image release-candidate-dm800_20090310.nfi.

I selected the repair boot sector options and during the
flashing with a serial cable received; -

    006 Write Failed at:
    0117c000:e1
    01e20000:e1
block will be marked as bad.

I managed to get in and install the authentication plugin
    and received the result: -

    YAJC-VWXL-KGH6

I plugged the result into the dream multimedia web site and it just came back with to contact dream support.
(so i guess will have to wait till tomorrow to find out if the box is the real mckoy)

i used the web interface to flash experimental-dm800_20091226.nfi again and sure enough.....dead again.

    Thanks Zodac

Actually i'm on the mainland and was thinking of picking up a 2nd unit for my flat. It is primarly an expat convenience so i would expect that a tenant who wants sky will requie the sports channels at a minimum.

Because of the cost and trouble of getting a card on the mainland, i don't want to leave give the tenant the paid service unless they pay for it, thus the desire to use in the dreambox.

So in summary, you are saying i should not buy a 2nd hand unit if i want to provide the sports channel in the sky box, but should buy a match pair.

If i then use the card in the dreambox will it still work if i put back to the sky box later?

    cheers for the info.

lastly re the dreambox, if i want two dishes one for 28E and for 19E (i think it is), can i connect both dishes to the dreambox? am planning on a dreambox 8000

I currently have a FTA receiver at home pointed to the sky sat and receive the free channels at home.

I have another place where i need to get sky for my tenant, but i only want to provide it if they pay the subscription. my idea was; -

    - put a 2nd hand sky box in the other place
    - get a dreambox for my home
    - let the other guy use the sky subscription card in the sky box (when its being paid for)
    - use the sky card in the dreambox at home (when the tenant does not want to pay)

can someone me if this is possible please? i was lead to believe the cards are linked to the h/w. Does this mean i can't get a 2nd hand sky box then?

    thanks
