My 7025S of three and a Half years, was having trouble powering up from deep Standby or power switch off.
I noticed a steady decline in it's readiness to restart and assumed this was due to a deterioration of power supply smoothing capacitors.
(A job I never got round to sorting before the inevitable total failure).
I took my box apart last week and examined the PSU and indeed one of the 2,200uF DC supply rail smoothers was dry as a bone (Heat evaporation of the electrolyte).
I ordered a complete set of electrolytic capacitors for the output side of the PSU, Having now replaced them all!
Now when I try to switch on power from the box front soft switch, all I get is a momantary 15V and 5V on the HDD supply connector.
This tells me the SMPSU is driving, initially but overcurrent protection is being triggered and killing the switch derived power (Supplementary) supplies.
Only the primary 8V is present constantly, providing 3.3V supply for the Power on Reset Chip and the Atmel Microcontroller forthe display control panel.
With Dream up I noticed on connetion power up the box was recognised but the bootloader would not start.
I ordered a new PSU from my Dreambox supplier, same fault!
I suspect there is short circuit or excessive current draw on the main board causing the psu to overcurrent protect.
I checked all the mainboard fuses: OK!
My biggest worry is that the ATI system cntroller is shot, being the biggest power consumer on the board, I can only confirm this by isolating power to it.
I have measured low resistance both ways across C1224, next to U205 one of the two LP type voltage regulator ic's, but I suspect this is the processor core supply.
If anyone knows where to obtain a full schematic for the box, I'd glady pay to get one asap.
I really do think DMM let this box down with a completely inferior Taiwanese Power supply. (CWT) The German Panasonic replacement I was sent was in every way superior, it must cost at least double the price of the crappy CWT. DMM what were you thinking in a $500+ box?
Any ideas where I can get the main board tested and repaired would also be helpful.
Greatest thanks to all!
Henry.
