    Well, If it had been something portable, then it would have been already ported :winking_face: I've done some work in glibc for MIPS and I have to say that MIPS is a very "clean" arch in comparison to x86, and if you want to give it a try, you must be very fit in "low level" MIPS things. :face_with_rolling_eyes:

    it's new for me that kexec is available for PowerPC and MIPS kernels.

    I had a quick look at git-sources, kexec syscall is only available for the following archs: i386, x86_64, ppc, ppc64, ia_64, s390 and SH.


    it's very arch specific because some kernels are position dependent code, and loaded in unmapped memory, so a kernel would need to overwrite itself for kexec like in MIPS case. kexec still isn't flexible enough to handle this. so, bye bye kexec on DM7025! :face_with_tongue:

    no. the best solution in your case is that the standard bootloader boots uboot instead of linux kernel and uboot boots the linux kernel from somewhere with your wishes :smiling_face: uboot is very flexible and ported to many MIPS boards, has even a builtin USB driver so that you can use a USB keyboard. admittedly you should adapt the USB driver to uboot. have a look at the xilleon usb kernel patches, i think, it's not a big effort. otherwise you also could use the framebuffer with uboot. this is the difficult part of porting. if you want, i send you the framebuffer specs of xilleon.

    doesn't make sense what you tell here. how to tell grub how the remote functions? you want to port the IR driver to grub? forget it.


    and booting some kernels via serial console from another locations like NFS servers or HD already goes with the existing bootloader, you don't need another bootloader for that.

    devfs is disabled and being removed since Linux 2.6.13, dm7025 still has the version 2.6.12 with devfs and after 2.6.13-rc3, in MTD devfs is replaced with udev like lot of drivers because devfs is abandoned by its maintainer.


    if you have nothing to do other than fooling around with MTD, then try to get work YAFFS on DM7025. I've been told that YAFFS is better than JFFS2 for NAND, the only disadvantage is that YAFFS does not support compression which is not important because we all have large CFs :winking_face:

    don't use BSD patch, use GNU patch. eventually you'll have trouble with other BSD stuff like sed, grep, diffutils, tar, ... too. I know, it's "sad but true" :winking_face:

  • Kernel oops on 7025

    syncing your kernel with the latest CVS tree from Memory Technology Device
    (ftp://ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/people/dwmw2/mtd/cvs/) and using a newer version of blkmtd (you have 1.24, MTD CVS has already 1.29) might help.


    or use block2mtd instead of blkmtd. block2mtd is a clean rewrite version of blkmtd.


    but be careful that you don't destroy the MTD changes of DMM. as far as DMM did not make any API incompatibilities with MTD, you won't have any trouble, but i'm not sure.
