    Thanks for the info everyone.

    I was using the Elgato skin but I have now just discovered the Elegance HD skin which I quite like so I have switched over to that skin, not sure if this is a heavy skin or not.

    Tode, I am not very familiar with EPGRefresh, but I am using OpenEPG to fetch my EPG data, which I believe is a replacement, so I don't think I can try your method. The best I can do is probably just increase the AutoTimer polling interval. I found that I had set my AutoTimer polling interval to 1 hour, so I have now changed it to every 6 hours and I will monitor it to see if there is any improvement.

    Ah I do use AutoTimer, in fact that is my main use of the box. I setup a few auto timers and just let the box schedule its own recordings. I probably have around 20 auto timers set up.

    Is this too many?

    Is there something I can do to reduce the workload, such as reduce the EPG somehow so it doesn't need to scan so much EPG to create the timers? I use gutemine's OpenEPG to get the Sky EPG data, but in reality I only record from about 10 channels, so all others could be ignored if possible.

    I will try running the command given above next time it happens and report back.

    Thanks.

    Hi all,

    Just wondered if anyone else has to suffer this problem with their DM7080 HD.

    I regularly see spinning gears in the corner of the screen, and when they are spinning the remote control is completely useless, eventually they disappear and the remote control starts working again. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes or more.

    Also sometimes the box won't wake up using the remote (purple screen) and again it can take 5-10 minutes before it responds to the remote control.

    For such an expensive box I find this issue very annoying.

    The software is fully updated, are there any settings I might change to fix this behaviour?

    Thanks for any help.

    I can't say that I have seen this issue myself. I am using a HDD freshly formatted for my DM7080, if it makes any difference.

    I have seen the following issues though:
    - Sometimes, when watching a recording, the UI freezes with the spinning gears in the corner of the screen. The playback continues perfectly but the remote control is useless until the spinning stops.
    - Sometimes it boots up with no network interface. The network screen is empty. I have to keep rebooting until it eventually gets a network interface. I am using ethernet connection. I need this because I like to have email notifications when a recording finishes and when there are updates available.

    These are my 2 biggest issues so far, however basic recording and playback seems to work well.

    Many thanks m0rphU and gutemine!

    I have some reading to do.

    I also found this link which has some background info on Enigma2, which I found interesting:
    http://www.saunalahti.fi/znark…a2_development_toolchain/

    Unfortunately the IPTVDream plugin which I am most interested in also contains some C/C++ code, however this plugin access several different IPTV sources, so I don't yet know if the C/C++ code is used for all of them or just some of them. Also, I haven't found an up-to-date .ipk for it yet. I was hoping to extract the .ipk, then update the Python for OE2.2 and see if it worked.

    I might see if I can follow the tutorials and build a Kartina-only plugin from scratch using only Python.

    Hi folks,

    I am interested in helping to update any plugins I might need for my DM7080. I have searched around but not found much information about plugin development, especially for OE2.2.

    The first plugin I am interested in is the IPTVDream plugin, so my wife can watch her Kartina subscription on the DM7080.
    m0rphU has already pointed out some things that need changing and how they might be fixed, so I would like to have a go at fixing it.

    I am familiar with Python but not at all familiar with the development process for Dreambox.

    Do I need to build OE2.2 myself if I am only doing plugin development?
    If so, can anyone point me to any documentation about how to do this?

    How do I create a .deb file if the plugin uses the old package format?

    I will be starting from a fresh Ubuntu installation, what tools, etc do I need to setup the development toolchain?

    Thanks for any help,

    Charles

    Thanks, I will have a play this weekend.

    I quite like the look of the Glass HD and Elgato HD skins, so I will try to find them for OE2.2.

    It sound like OpenEPG is all I need for my EPG then.

    For recordings, it looks like AutoTimer and maybe SeriesTimer might do what I need, and then the pushservice plugin you mentioned would work for my notifications.

    Also, is it possible to hide channels, such as if I wanted to hide all religious, shopping, gambling channels. Is that possible in any automated way?

    Hi folks,

    I got my DM7080 delivered yesterday, looks good and seems very responsive so far.

    So far I have:
    - installed HDD
    - configured networking
    - performed software updates
    - manually installed OpenEPG plugin
    - performed service scan and EPG download

    This is my first Linux receiver, whilst I was setting it up I came up with a few questions and since there is no English manual yet I was hoping I could get some answers here, which might also help other new users.

    PLUGINS
    =======

    I read somewhere that I could copy a plugin file onto the root of the Dreambox and then install it using the "Install Local Extension" menu, but it would not find the plugin file. Eventually I used ssh to login and then dpkg to install the .deb file manually. Is this normal or should the UI method have worked?

    Is there a list of killer/recommended plugins for a new box?

    SFTP
    ====

    Related to the above, when I was trying to copy the OpenEPG plugin file onto my DM7080 I could see an SFTP connection from my Dreambox appearing in my FTP app (Transmit by Panic), I assume it was using Bonjour to advertise the connection, however I couldn't get it to login over SFTP. Is there a preset username/password for this SFTP connection?

    SKINS
    =====

    Is there a website/forum with previews/screenshots of the skins available for a DM7080?

    EPG
    ===

    I am using OpenEPG to download the Sky/Freesat EPG. How does this relate to EPGRefresh? I saw some settings in OpenEPG for refreshing daily so I assume that this replaces the need for EPGRefresh?

    How do I pimp up my EPG with picons?

    RECORDINGS
    ==========

    I have tried a few timer recordings and it looks easy enough to setup a repeating timer for shows that always start/end at the same time each week, however I have noticed often shows will have very different time slots each week. Is there a way to handle this on the Dreambox? Can I use a title or keyword to trigger a recording instead of exact start/end times?

    NOTIFICATIONS
    =============

    Many years ago I had a Mac running Elgato EyeTV and I got it setup to send me an email after each recording was finished, which was especially useful when using the keyword recording feature. Is it possible to get some kind of email or other notification from the Dreambox when it has made a recording or any other important events occur (like running out of disk space, etc)?

    Thanks in advance for any help, once I'm up to speed with this thing I'm going to try some plugin development myself.

    Charles

    I'm interested in this too.

    At the moment the English Quick Start Guide that comes with the DM7080 points you to a downloads page which has no mention of the DM7080 at all.

    Thanks again folks, looking forward to my DM7080 arriving this week sometime.

    Once I have got the basics all working, I will take a look at the plugin mentioned above and see if I can update it for OE2.2.

    gutemine, that's good to know, thanks.

    Thanks to both of you, it is all becoming clearer now :smiling_face:

    I guess I don't really need nightly scanning, I just heard that some Freesat channels get moved/added/removed every month, so I was trying to make it as automatic as possible.

    I believe that I will need to use the new OpenEPG plugin for the Freesat channels.

    Do the plugins themselves auto update, say when a new version of OpenEPG is released, or do I have to update them manually?

    I spoke to a dealer who also recommended getting a separate USB flash drive for the EPG.

    Shame about the WOL, I have not seen an English manual for the DM7080 yet, but how does the power management work for these boxes?
    Is it just Off->Idle->On ?
    Do people usually leave them on all the time?
    I assume that timer recordings still work in Idle mode?

    I ask because I used to have a rubbish Humax box that would always fail to wake up from Standby mode to make timer recordings, so I want to make sure it will not be a problem with this box too.

    The webif sounds useful, I will investigate the iOS apps today. I am also an iOS developer myself, so if I don't like them I can always make one myself.

    Hi m0rphU

    Thanks very much for such a detailed post.

    So the new DM7080 runs OpenEnigma 2.2, which is now closed source, for Dreamboxes only.
    Can the Dreambox also run images like Vix or BlackHole that I have seen for the Vu+?

    What is this Merlin I keep seeing mentioned?

    I am a developer myself so I don't mind helping out updating plugins if I need to.
    It is good to hear that Dream give good support to the developers.

    Is there a central place to look for plugins?
    So far I see people posting links to binaries in forums, is that how we find and install plugins or does the DM7080 download them from a repository somewhere?

    If you know any good links for Dreambox plugin development I would love to see them.

    I will be getting a WD 4TB AV-GP HDD for my recordings, do you know if I am supposed to partition this in any special way or just leave it as one large partition? Is there any preferred filesystem (FAT32, ext3, ext4)?

    Do I need to create any Linux swap space?

    It sounds like I will need to setup two things on my DM7080:
    - A nightly channel scan on Astra 28.2E to find new channels automatically
    - A nightly EPG download for the Freesat EPG

    Are these easy to do on the Dreambox?

    Also, one thing I found useful with my previous provider was being able to remotely schedule recordings from my iPhone/iPad when I was away from home. Would I be able to do the following with the Dreambox?
    - Send my Dreambox a Wake-on-LAN packet to wake it up
    - Access a web page on the Dreambox (or use a mobile app) to allow me to schedule a recording

    I like the look of the DM7080 more and more. I just wish that they also made a DVB-T2 tuner, I only use S2 right now but in the UK we also use DVB-T2 for terrestrial HD, I know that the Vu+ boxes have a T2 tuner available.

    Thanks for the help,

    Charles

    Hi,

    Reposting this in the English section.

    I'm hoping some of you might be able to answer a few questions about the DM7080. This forum seemed to be the biggest collection of users.

    I would like to get a Linux-based satellite receiver for watching the Freesat channels in the UK. This will be my first Linux receiver, I have been researching them, but I am still very new to this area.

    I want the following features:
    - fast interface
    - reliable watching and recording of Freesat channels
    - able to also watch Kartina IPTV service
    - good hardware for future software updates

    I have chosen either the DM7080HD or the Vu+ Duo2. They both have very similar specs and seem to be the fastest machines available at the moment.

    I prefer the physical look of the DM7080 as I think the LCD on the Duo2 is distracting, but so far I have only seen the photos and Youtube videos of the DM7080. There doesn't seem to be much English support information for the DM7080, and in the forums it looked like people were having lots of issues with the new machine and some of the advertised features are not working yet.

    What do you DM enthusiasts really think of the DM7080? Is it reliable? Is it well built? Why should I pay the extra to get the DM7080 over the Duo2?
    I have not used either of them so I am very interested in your expert opinions.

    Does anyone here have any experience of watching the Kartina IPTV service on the DM7080? Is there a plugin available? I did see some mentions of a Kartina plugin for "enigma2" but I do not know if this will run on the DM7080 or if it will need a new version specifically for the DM7080.

    In the specs it mentions the DM7080 supports a 3.5" HDD, does anyone know if there are also mounting holes for a 2.5" HDD or is it really only a 3.5" HDD?

    Many thanks for any help and opinions,

    Charles
