It might be more easier to build neutrino based image for dm500+ nfi format then what you are trying.
The old bootloader might not know how to handle the new RAM and Flash chips so while can be an interesting to try, it will not work eventually.
Does dm500+ have a bios where you can select to boot from tftp or NFS ?
For the older dm500 was very easy to use FlashWizard for such images when the image size > flash size.

I still don't comprehend why would a thread pump binary running in user space has anything to do with DM...closed source license.
Python libraries are still open source even after its used to compile a pyo. If you put a restrictive license on the pyo program
then it needs to be respected by end user. Other then that is all smoke and mirrors. 
Take google for example: they built on top of Java stack (fork) and still cannot get away with it in Dalvik.
Even now they are under scrutiny about license ..and how much they need to pay to Oracle for using Java.
Debating or not, you should not speak about things you do not understand completely. 
Enigma2 was open source and then it became closed source. DMM can move away from open source model if they
craft their drivers such way that they break away completely from linuxtv api which is open source.
Is that the intention. 
I didn't check the posted files, so I have to ask: Which license did you choose? Keep in mind, that DMM cannot use GPL code because their Licence is not GPL compatible.
And another question as a stupid user without SatIP: What's the difference between your files and the SatIP Server or Client (??) that is included in DMM images!?

The difference between the posted files and the ones included in DMM images (as you mentioned) is that these work with older dreamboxes 3.2 kernel.

You should try setting your dm500hd A/V settings using webif with virtual remote (or openwebif in OpenPli).
The correct settings are:
Mode: HDMI
Refresh rate: 60Hz
The 50Hz is mostly used in EU and Asia, not in NTSC countries.
If your name is not relating to DMM developers, please stop writing BS here. Its not even funny anymore.

I don`t think they are paying license per box - since they have the binaries on a open repository.
There is a lot of spoken overhead in the hobby to protect witty eyes from discovering that a mipsel binary is working same on any hardware if installed properly.
In your case this can be working both ways - I thought originally dreambox was copied because Cccam was made only for mipsel. Everyone is sharing out of their amusement. I dont think anyone is doing this with other intentions, unless a company is involved.

And was right to do so, considering the growth they have enjoyed since inception.

The truth to the matter is...DMM have lost a major portion of their original users because of the clone
noodle shop business. If anyone opinion matters - since it seems they don`t give much about that (why after 2-3 years since cloners have started the PCB printing machine there are still original dream boxes selling out there without some improved security added or anything to stand out in the crowd ? )
Going back at you ... the Openpli decision might have something to do with their limited resources they have...and probably being a coder yourself you know what that means...cut some slack.
How to improve that reaction ? By supporting them, with whatever means necessary since they are committing to support. Well...it has nothing to do with what they done in the past, what not..it is human nature. Yes, people enjoy using others work, especially because is free, as in free beer. From my experience this is not far fetched from linux concept either.
