    WSS = Wide Screen Signaling

    It's used to inform the TV which aspect ratio the video signal got.

    The information is encoded in the analog video signal and thus not dependant on additional data pins as in the SCART connector.

    However haven't got this feature to work yet even though it should.

    Check here for more info:

    Widescreen_signaling

    I've noticed that the selection of "always 16:9" is dependant of which hardware type you've got by checking the setupvideo.cpp

    Why is that? Isn't the dm500 capable of just VIDEO_CENTER_CUT_OUT
    or whatever it's called.

    Seems like the WSS doesn't work on my TV, can somebody confirm that this works at all?

    Only the SCART Pin8 signals proper aspect ratio. in 16:9 mode.

    But I'd like to use the component video out instead of RGB, so I'm in need of proper WSS signalling, or the "always 16:9" mode where black bars are added to the sides when showing 4:3 material.

    Viasat uses this too. 5.0° E

    I'm not really satisfied with MV epg it often makes Enigma restart.
    I do use it on my dm7000, but not on the dm500.

    (Sorry for not writing in german, but there weren't a feature request in the English section.

    The integration of MHWEPG is great. Will an OTVEPG be integrated as well?

    Well, shouldn't be too difficult to repair without the schematics. It's probably just a common switch mode power supply.
    As you got power to the display, the primary circuit with its switch transistor is probably OK, this together with bad capacitors are otherwise quite common to fail. Check which voltages that are bad...12V, 5V are there any more? Check semiconductors on secondary side probably most rectifying diodes. Check transformer so that all windings are OK.
