Hello, thanks for your speedy replies.
    The Information, About, says:
    Enigma2:2012-11-03-3.2
    Image:Release 3.2.4 2012-11-04
    Frontprocessor version:1
    Detected NIMs
    Tuner A:BCM4504 (DBV-S2)

This is the latest image for the DM500HD that I can find on http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/downloads#DM500HD
Can you suggest an image which will decode AC3+, please.

The A/V settings menu does not mention AC3+, just the two settings for 'AC3 Default' and 'AC3 Downmix'.

From your replies I gather that the PID listsing will only show the Audio streams for there is a codec in the Dreambox; is there a way to show all the streams (PIDs) ?

    Thanks so far

    John

I have a DM500HD connected via HDMI to a Sony DN1050 amp. I watch FTA French TV
on Eutelsat 5.0W [on 11591 V 20000 QPSK]. Up till April all was OK.
Since then I get both Video and Audio on France 3, but Video only for
France 2 and France 4. In the Information menu, Service, PIDs, the Sound PID
    shows N/A for Fr2 and Fr4, and 0x00e6 for Fr3.

    I have found this note:

    <<

    >>

    and this thread:

Just Sharing This - fransat fta channels from 5 april

which says the problem is with Dolby 5.1 encoded sound (which ties in with
the Fr2/Fr3/Fr4 effect), and mentions AC3 downmix (OFF) and HDMI cables.

With some German boradcats on 19.2E I see a Dolby 2.0 sound channel.

But my problem seems to be that I get no Sound PID for Fr2, right back in the
Tuner, rather than in the subsequent audio format decoding.

Do I need a more modern DB ?

    Thanks

Last November I upgraded my DM7000-S to a DM500HD. The picture quality is excellent.

But I had a problem with setting up and maintaining satellite positions with Diseqc 1.2 (not USALS) steerable dish. This had been working for years with the DM7000-S.

After software upgrades and a replacement tuner had failed to improve the situation, I decided to follow up a suggestion (this thread) that the Diseqc commands on this newer Dreambox (and maybe other Enigma2 boxes) were not correctly formatted.

I borrowed a 'scope from work, and found I could tap of the co-ax inner into a passive circuit which which keeps the 22Khz tone and also rectifies it to show the pulse widths. I planned to detect and decode the protocol from the bit level upwards.

I fed the signals into a PC audio input box (Behringer UFO202), and cranked up Audacity to sample stereo at 100Khz. Then I could see, and record, the 22Khz signals, and the variable width pulses.

With this logging in place, I started to set up and the satellite positions, and exercise the dish movements. I would be able to go back over the recording immediately before an error, and check the command formats.

And I kept adding satellites, moving the dish - and it never went wrong. I have had this setup in place for 10 days now, with twice daily recordings from each of 5 satellites between 5.0W and 28.2E, and it has not put a foot wrong.

So, as far I am concerned, the problem is fixed. If I had not spent enough time on this already, I would experiment to find out what is the minimum circuit I need to keep the system running, but I am just pleased to have it going.

So if anyone encounters similar issues, just try loading the signal a bit - probably a 100nF capacitor and 1.2K resistor would have done the trick.

If anyone wants, I can post the full circuit and some logged data.

    Best wishes

    Hi

Last month I got a new DM500HD to replace my 7000S as part of a HD upgrade.

I am still having problems with the issue I reported under:
DM500 HD - after hours of operation loses video or locks up

What happens is that after a few hours operation, the decocded video is no longer seen on the TV. I hear the TV sound, I can see all the Dreambox generated menus. This is true for both live broadcasts and recordings. I need to Restart the Dreambox to get the video back.

I first had the problem with firmware 2.8.4, and still have it (probably worse) with 3.0.1. I had increased the fan to about 3300 rpm, and the temperature is reported as 32C.

(I also have a less frequent problem with the dreambox locking up completely, so ti no longer responds to the remote, and I need to power it off and on).

Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions ?

    John

I have recently upgraded my DM7000-S to a new DM500 HD. I am gradually this working, but it has been a bit of a struggle.

I got the networking and use of the steerable dish going on Sunday, and left the DM500HD on. On Monday when I got home from work, about 20 hours later, the box did not respond to any key-presses on the remote, or to the front panel OFF button. I powered it off using the switch on the back, then on again, and it started up OK. I left it on again overnight.

This morning, about 10 hours later, the 'box was working, but was not showing any video streams. I could see all the on-screen menus, and hear the audio from TV and Radio, but I could not see any TV, or the radio 'blue' background, or watch any recorded movies. A 'Restart GUI' did not fix it, but a 'Restart' did. The board temp was 32 degrees.

Has anyone else seen these types of behaviour ?

    Thanks

    John

    Hello Benny/9

Thank you for taking the time to post such detailed instructions. I have followed them closely, and I am very pleased to report that I had a couple of days of operation of the DM500HD and the steerable dish without any problems (at least with this side of it). I have been moving freely between 28.2E, 19.2E, 5.0W. I have also re-booted and powered off the DM500HD, and it seems to be keeping the satellite positions fine.

I think the main difference between what I had been doing before, and your method, is that I did not set the lat/long to zero. I had assumed that these values were only used with USALS; I had set them to my location (York).

One other point which I maybe should have mentioned is that I have a Spaun box to power the dish - my old DM7000-S would crash if the dish moved with the higher voltage (Horiz ?) polarisation. This Spaun box provides power to the dish motor, while repeating the Diseqc commands up to the motor and passing the LNB signal back. In the the course of setting up following your instructions, I disconnected and then re-connected this Spaun box.

So, thanks again. I had been struggling for some time with this problem, now it seems very much better.

    Best wishes

Ok, I have read the manual (if all else fails ...). I see it says the IP address must be in the range 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254.

I have been using the 192.168.1.x subnet for all the devices (Soundbridge, PCs, DM7000) on the home network, as my Orange Livebox router uses it. The DM7000 was happy with this subent, and I am sure the DM500HD was with 2.8.2.

Anyway, this evening I will try it with an 192.168.0.x subnet address.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Still more questions following upgrading from a DM7000 to DM500HD. (I am surprised this is proving so difficult - maybe I had a similar steep learning curve when I got the DM7000 set up, but that was few years ago ...)

Anyway, with the DM7000 I could use an Ethernet crossover cable, connect the Dreambox to my laptop. Set a fixed IP address (192.168.1.9, no DHCP), subnet mask 255.255.254.0 on the Dreambox, and use Filezilla to get files to/from the hard disk.

I did get this going on the DM500HD, with the official 2.8.2 image that the box came with. I have since installed 2.8.4. Now I cannot seem to get the networking going with this same setup (IP 192.168.1.19) . I have tried restarting the Dreambox network, restarting the box, and powering it off and on. The Dreambox will not respond to a ping, and ftp (Filezilla or command-line) never shows a response.

The network test shows the IP address as 'undetermined'

Does anyone have any clues ?

    Thank you

    Hi

I have a new DM500HD as an upgrade to my old DM7000. I am using firmware version 2.8.4

I have a problem with selecting and listening to a radio station.

I press 'Radio', then navigate to the station I want. When I press 'OK' I can listen to the station. As I use further navigation buttons, I can move around the radio channel list, and the station selected with OK keeps playing. This is what I expect. But if I press Exit, then the Dreambox reverts to the previously playing TV station. So the only way I can listen to the radio is when I have the radio station selection window open, so I cannot set timers or do anything else. This is not how the DM7000 used to work, and it is very inconvenient.

Does anyone else get this? Is there a workaround ?

    Thanks

    Hello M

I think I have similar issues with my new DM 500 HD - see my post : DM500HD and Diseqc 1.2

My Metronics steerable dish worked fine with my DM 7000, but is very erratic with the DM 500 HD.

The DM 500 HD works fine with a single satellites, and seems OK when I use the a subset of the 3 with default service lists (28.2E, 19.2E, 13.0E). But when I try to re-scan one of these, or add another (typically 5.0W), it seems to loose position, so that subsequent moves can point the dish anywhere. I cannot even make the positioner setup goto /store page work reliably.

Can you point em to any threads which might a clue as to how to improve this.

    Thanks

    Hi

I have just upgraded to an HD TV, and replaced my DM7000 with a DM 500HD. I have the same steerable dish and LNB.

I am having trouble setting up the satellite positions, and keeping them, with the new layout of menus. I am using the Advanced tuner settings, and I have found how to select Diseqc 1.2 without USALS. I can locate the satellites at 28.2E, 19.2E, 13.0E using Search East/Search West, and scan for the channels on them.

But I have problems with maintaining the settings. This morning I re-scanned for 'free services only' on 1.92E, and all the satellite positions have been lost. When I zap to a station, or use 'goto stored position' the dish moves, but not to the correct place.

The three satellites above can have default channel information loaded by a wizard on start-up. But I am not sure what I need to do to get the channels on 5.0W (French FTA is what I want). I have tried stepping with a manual transponder set up (France 2 details from Lyngsat), but I only see about 1 or 2 db SNR, not the 10 -15 I see from 28.2E, 19.2E. Do I need to load the transponder details for this satellite using DreamBoxEdit or some such ?

Are there any useful sites which can help me get though this change, which is proving harder than I expected.

    Thanks

    John

Please provide some information about the hard- and software used.

    I have a Dreambox 7000-S receiver. I use the standard 1.09 image.

I used to use a 36v 80cm dish with a V-Box between the Dreambox and the dish. This worked fine.

I replaced this dish with a 80cm Diseqc dish with Metronic motor.

The Dreambox receives signals fine, and controls the dish OK most of the time. Maybe one dish movement of of 4 or 5, the dish moves, but the Dreambox hangs - it does not respond to any remote signals, and I need to turn it off and on using the front panel controls. I am pretty sure the CPU has crashed.

The Dreambox power supply is notorious for being under-designed. I think that when the motor takes power to move, there is a dip or noise on the Dreambox CPU power supply which causes it to hang.

Is there a box on the market which I can put between the Dreambox and the dish which
    a) is independently powered
    b) supplies the power needed to move the dish to the motor
    c) copies Diseqc commands from the receiver to the motor
    d) passes the receiver switch signals (H/V etc) to the LNB
    e) passes the LNB signals to the receiver

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,,

I think I have discovered a satisfactory workaround.

In XP, 'Netwrok connections' panel, highlight both the wireless and wired connections, and create a 'network bridge'. Then the laptop can talk to the Dreambox and the internet OK.

The only problem is that if I remove the wired DB connection (eg, take the laptop to another room), then the network bridge will not work, and I can no longer see the internet.

I guess I can set up to hardware configurations, one for roaming, one for working with the dreambox, and select one of the two when I start XP.

Not perfect, but I can live with this.

If anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know.

    Hi

On the 'old board' I would have posted this under English - Software - PC.

Anyway, can anyone give me a clue about this problem, please ?

I have a new laptop, which has a built in wireless network to my broadband router (Wanadoo Livebox), which works fine.

It also has a wired connection, and with a crossover cable I can connect to the Dreambox 7000S, which works fine.

But when I use the direct connection to the Dreambox, the laptop loses its Internet connectivity. The OS is XP Home SP2; the connection to the router is still OK, but the 'Internet gateway' icon in 'Network connections' has disappeared.

I also have USB wireless network interface which I have used to connect to the router - can I set up the Dreambox to use this to connect to the other PCs on the network ?

    Thanks
