Unfortunately it is like the what use to be the egg timer icon on earlier versions of windows before they changed to the spinning circular thing they use now and it is just to let you know that it is working on something so until it stops you can not do anything.

My DM8000 does it when it is loading the recorded items when I click on the PVR button, although if it ever took 10 minutes instead of the 30 seconds to a minute that it usually takes, then I would probably reboot the box.

When I get a similar thing with a USB stick on my DM8000 I format it as FAT 32 in a windows PC then the Dreambx will usuall format it and mount it OK so it may work with your hard drive too.

If its happened after a rain storm then its probably the LNB or the cable that has got water inside it.

Can you borrow another box off someone to check if its the Dreambox that has a fault or just the LNB or the cable.
It shouldn't cost that much to have the LNB and/or cable replaced, unless your dish is very high up.

and I wouldn't use NTFS in combination with the dreambox

I don't know how Jalizi is using his external drive but I FTP recordings that I want to keep from the Dreamboxes internal hard drive to various 1 and 2TB SATA hard drives that I drop into a USB 3 hard drive dock attached to my PC. Then if I want to watch something at a later date I just drop the relevant SATA drive into another USB hard drive dock that I have plugged into my Dreambox. All my drives are formatted as NTFS and the Dreambox has no problem reading them.

My box is the DM8000 and I am using the Oozoon image but I think this should be similar.

Setup then System then Storage devices. Mine would show the second partition in there and ask if I wanted to mount it.

Incidentally is there any reason why you want it to have two partitions ? If not just merge them into a single one as there isn't a 1TB limit, if its for different kinds of films or music or something like that then I find using a single partition with multiple folders for the different type of films or music works fine.

I had a similar problem recenty with my DM8000.
After a power cut I noticed that it wasnt connecting to the internet and that I couldnt FTP into the box.
I usually have it set with a static IP, I ran the test and as the op has said it was all OK except for the nameserver, even though it was set correctly.
I set it to DHCP and rebooted and everything was fine.
I then unticked the DHCP and rebooted and got the same nameserver error.
I have had to set it as DHCP until I get time to look into it further.
I am still using 1.6 so maybe over the holiday period I will get around to reflashing the box and seeing what happens with the network after that.

How are you connecting it to the TV ?

I havent used your model but on the DM 8000 when you switch on it has the language, country and output display options, scart, HDMI component etc and whether it is 50 or 60 hz.
If you select an option that you dont confirm it can display it reverts to its default.

Check if the ones that you can get are vertical or horizontal channels. If only one type then you may have a faulty LNB or your power supply may be faulty.

I never knew that they already transmit in DVB-T2, I thought it was still in test phase.

The UK has been rolling out DVB-T2 for over 2 years now in various regions, as they switch over from analogue to digital TV. All of the UK will be on digital TV broadcasts by the end of this year but the only HD channels we get via DVB-T2 at the moment are BBC1, ITV1, C4, and a part time BBC one showing a selection of programmes from other BBC channels. There is supposed to be room for one more HD channel but they have yet to say if it will be another BBC channel or maybe C5.

I had an audio problem using the web interface as it was using windows media player by default.
It was using the narrated (NAR) audio stream and not the normal English one.
I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

There didnt appear to be an option to select audio streams in windows media player or to select the player for the web interface, so I changed the default program in windows control panel to always use VLC media player when it could.
I can now select which audio track when its playing from VLC's audio options.
I think by changing your deault program to either VLC or the one you usually play flac and mkv files in.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Jason,
It does sound like the power supply. To check it, if you have a voltmeter, you can remove the coax plug from the box and place the probes of a voltmeter on the outer part and the inner part, you will probably need a thin wire to fit on the inside, make sure you dont short them together. You should get a reading of 14v on one polarisation and a reading of 18v on the other. Just set it to a channel you know that you get and check the voltage then to one you no longer get and check that one too.
If you havent got a meter they only cost £4 or £5 for one thats good enough, its cheaper than buying a new power supply and quicker to check it too.
