"No Data On Transponder" message for all channels on DM8000

  • Hi Guys!

I just started a thread in the software forum but soon realized that perhaps it should be in here instead. I know there are some other threads with similar problems but not really the same problem so I'll start a new thread, hoping that there's someone out there that can help me.

I just picked up my DM8000 yesterday (my first Dreambox ever by the way). Yesterday I started it up and made a channel search (I'm using Canal Digital, with a valid subscription and a working CAM). Unfortunately, I was unable to find all channels that should be there but at least I were able to watch the channels that were found, both SD and HD channels, including the encrypted channels so the CAM and the subscription card should work fine.

After some internet browsing I found some information about why I did not find all channels and also some changes that should fix the problem. I logged onto the DM and added a couple of satellite definitions in satellites.xml and added a config line in modules.conf. I re-booted the DM, switched satellite definition and made another channel search. YES! Now the DM found all the channels and I thought everything would be fine. However, this is not the case. All channels were found, I can see EPG info from all channels and I have a strong signal. Despite all this I can not get any video or sound on a single channel. For every channel I get the message "No Data On Transponder! - Timeout reading PAT".

If it matters the channels are from satellite Thor 3 & 5 (0.8W), Provider = Telenor.

Does anyone have any idea of what the problem is and what to do about it?

  • it sounds to me like your not on the satellite you think you are, either incorrect scan or a switch not switching when its supposed to.

goto menu->setup->searching->satfind and select the sat you want to test and a transponder, now in telnet

    dvbsnoop -nph -n 1 0x00

are those the sids your expecting on that transponder ?

if the answer is yes, redo your scan, if the answer is no then youve got an issue with your dish alignment or switch.

are you only pointed at the one satellite ?

  • Thanks for trying to help me. I've been away all week but now I'm back and can try it again...

Yes, I deleted all services when rescanning with the new settings.

I'm new at this so I don't really know all that much. What I think I know is that I need to connect to Thor 3/5 (0.8W) to get all the channels included in my service subscription with Canal Digital. The closes default setting was Thor 2,3 (0.9W). If I chose that satellite I got some of my channels (I guess the ones on Thor 3) but quite a few of them were missing (I guess the ones on Thor 5). However, I was able to watch the channels I could find, both SD and HD channels, both encrypted and non-encrypted channels. When using the satfinder option the signal strength was quite poor though.

After making some changes (mentioned earlier) I was able to find ALL my channels during service search and the signal strength when using satfinder is quite good. I also get EPG info (which I assume is downloaded via satellite). My interpretation of this is that I AM on the right satellite but for some reason it is not possible to watch any channels.

My previous sat tuner was Canal Digital's own HD tuner (Sagem) and through that I was able to see all channels. I have not touched the satellite since then, just replaced the tuner so no changes to the dish or any other hardware should be necessary.

I also tried the suggested console command. The result can be seen below. I do not know enough about what to expect to be able to get anything interesting out of that output.

Please, help get this running. I also have a hard drive to install to make it possible to record but there's no point in doing that until I can actually use the tuner to watch TV. Eventually I will also get the necessary parts to use the twin tuner.

  • Now I have tried to go back to the settings that worked before and did a rescan but now I don't get any video at all. I don't get the error message, I just get a complete blank, black image. The EPG information works fine though. Strange...

  • A factory reset and a new rescan did not change anything. The scan seems to work fine, a lot of channels are found, EPG data is shown but no image. What the h-ll..............

  • With some assistance from a helpful forum member I have now got it all to work.

I just want to know how you manage to solve this issue. Am getting crazy now as i am dealing with this same problem for 7 days.

    How do you fix it?

    Thanks

  • Sorry guys, I haven't been here for a very long time so I haven't noticed the questions.

It is now so very long ago that I don't remember what the solution was. I think it had something to do with changing image and the softcam as well as making some changes to parts of the configuration but I don't really remember. However, I have tried several images and versions since then. As I understand it, all settings are overwritten when you change your image to a different image or different version of the same image. For a very long time I have not had to do any extra configuration after installation. I have to make a channel search and re-install all plugins because all those settings disappear but in the end I can see all channels that are included in my subscription.

I have a regular "code card" which I am paying for. I am using a softcam to read it (though I have a hardware cam as well and it also works) but I am not using card sharing in any way.

Sorry that I can't give you more helpful information than this. I wish I could help you. :loudly_crying_face:
