Dreambox not connecting to the internet.

  • Hi,

I have a dreambox 500 that is connected using a cross cable to my windows xp SP2 pc.

If I connect a latptop to the cable, the laptop can access the internet.

I can ping the dreambox as well as connect to the http interface by typing the IP in IE.

Unfortunately, the dreambox does nto recognize the internet. I test this by trying to do the software update but it says unable to resolve host.

my communication is setup as follows

    IP: 192.168.0.160 DHCP Disabled
Netmask: 255.255.255.0 (same as on my PC's LAN connection)
    Type: LAN
Name Server: the one I get from ipconfig/all
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (My PC sets this when I enable Internet Connection Sharing)

    Enable netowork ON, Port 80

    What could be going wrong.

Also, what further information do I need to provide ?

I have uninstalled my firewall, I have disabeld windows firewall in the connection & reconnected with it disabled.

I use an ADSL dialup modem.

The network is fine because I can browse the dreambox through IE.

The internet is fine because if I connect the laptop inplace of the dreambox, that works.

    Please help !

the name-server and gateway in the STB must have identical adresses.
    (aka 192.168.0.1 for both)

No, you´re wrong. The name-server can be any name-server in the internet. Not all router have a name-server function. The router from a friend of mine has no one. They set the ip of the name-server for the dhcp-clients to the same ip as the router gets from the isp. Only the gateway have to be the adress of router.

    delerious write this:
"I have a dreambox 500 that is connected using a cross cable to my windows xp SP2 pc."
... and then is required NS and GW use the same adresses !
(the PC use a DialUp-DSL-Modem and ICS is in use)

  • No, you can use the same NS like your pc gets from your isp over the dsl-modem.

    Example:

Your pc gets from the isp:
    IP: 84.62.150.243 Subnet: 255.255.255.255
    NS1: 195.50.140.114
    NS2: 195.50.140.252

The IP of the networkcard from your pc is: 192.168.0.1 Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Then you can set to your Dreambox:

    IP: 192.168.0.2 Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    NS: 195.50.140.114 or 195.50.140.252

    ... this is right ?
hmm, when this setting ready for inet-conn., then is the
NS parameter in the delerious-box false.
(delerious has reading with ipconfig /all)
... OK, now must delerious compare the settings with your settings !
