    /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Screens/

    CVS Stand ab 07.11.07

  • Hallo ralfK,

  • Hello everyone

    If I understand the code from Ralf right (I have not tried it) it makes you leave the MoviePlayer just like before, but the next time you enter the movie list, you will start at the position of the last movie watched.

    Below I have included an alternative solution I have been using for the same problem. (The patch is slightly adapted to fit the 7/11 version, the same as Ralf compared to, I hope it still works...) When stopping the movie there is another menu alternative "Yes, returning to movie list" which puts you right back in the movie list on the right spot. No global variables and no confusing start position the next day when you want to start watching from scratch.

    I have not done anything about the case when the movie reaches the end (yet). Is anyone hacking on this?

    Ultimately, maybe there should be two more configuration questions:

    What should happen when a movie ends?
    Ask user / Return to movie list / Return to previous service / Pause

    What should happen when a movie is stopped?
    Ask user / Return to movie list / Return to previous service

    "Ask user" means to pop up the menu.

    Of course, the "Return to" alternatives should only happen if the end of the movie is hit by normal playback, not when fast winding or jumping. (Winding can be easily checked but how to check if a jump caused it I currently don't know.)

  • Hello again

    I have now implemented the solution I sketched in my above mail. Conceptually it is simple. There are three new configurations questions (in the "advanced" configuration mode). By selecting them appropriately I think that all wishes in the above thread can be accomplished (at least the wishes concerning what to do at end or stop). The three questions and their alternatives are:

    Behavior when a movie is started:
    * Ask user
    * Resume from last position
    * Start from the beginning

    Behavior when a movie is stopped:
    * Ask user
    * Return to movie list
    * Return to previous service

    Behavior when a movie reaches the end:
    * Ask user
    * Return to movie list
    * Return to previous service
    * Pause movie at end

    The end behavior is only launched it the end is hit during normal play, not when fast winding or jumping into it, then the movie only pauses, and the user can continue searching around. Or press play, and the end will be hit again and the end behaviour launched.

    The function of "<" and ">" is also modified so that they not only move to chapter marks (or the movie beginning), but also to the last position and to the movie end. That makes the choice of start behavior more useful, since it is then easy to jump between start and last. (And I find it useful to sometimes also get fast to the end and search backwards from there.)

    The default behavior is "Ask user" on all three configurations. I myself find the most useful settings to be respectively on the three: "Resume from last position", "Return to movie list", and "Return to movie list". This requires the least number of key presses for most operations.

    Functionally that's all there is to say.

    Although it is conceptually simple, the implementation was quite involved. Especially the end action was complicated, since it should not be launched when jumping into the end. Also, the first "end of movie" event for some reason occurs some seconds before the movie actually ends. I solved it with two timers, one triggered when the "end of movie" event appears and one triggered when jumping. So if the jump triggers an eof event, this will be detected by the jump timer callback which then can block the eof timer callback. But then all places in the code that triggered a jump had to be modified to make sure the jump timer is started.

    When starting a movie with "Resume from last position", I can't make rid of the message box "Resuming playback" that is shown briefly before resuming. If I remove it, the jump occurs "too early" and doesn't take effect. But the box may also be seen as a feature of course, although it was not deliberately so.

    The patch below should be applicable to at least versions from the CVS from after 23/11 or so, but may work earlier too with some fuzz.

    Any comments, bug reports, suggestions, etc, are welcome. If it turns out well I will probably submit it to the CVS.

    Hello,

    Here are two additional functions that I'd like to see:

    1.) Last played movie name is stored "somewhere" and I can start playing it back with just one (user defined) hotkey-button, for example long press of the green button. This button should also work in normal TV-service mode i.e. I just press the button and playback starts at the last watched movie at the correct place without the need to open the file dialog, select the file, press ok, answer questions etc.

    2.) Delete the file you are watching during playback: if I press a (user defined) button, a question appears saying if I want to delete the file, Stop deletes the file and ends playback, Exit quits the dialog and playback continues.

    Both are nice functions that I used daily with my earlier Topfield (with Improbox-tap) but sadly Dreambox is missing those.

  • And what i'd like to see is the option for continous playback, so that when movie file 1 is played to the end, the player starts the next file...

  • Something changed recently... In earlier releases (prior to 09/08) when the movie was ended and the option "yes, and back to movie list" selected, the movie was stopped and user was back in list. Now, the movie runs in background and user is back in list. When movie got deleted, it takes quite some time until it returns.

    Is this a feature or bug?

    Thanks,
    SJ

    This was the case for a while, but (as far as I understand from the CVS patches) it was fixed again on september 27:th.
