The fate of old devices

  • Hello,

I have a question and I think the answer is expected from members, but I hope to get an official final answer.

While these devices are still sold in some countries ( DM520 / DM525 / DM900 ultraHD / DM920 ultraHD ) What the fate of these devices in the future?

Will the new administration continue to support these devices, Or they will only support new devices ( ONE UltraHD / TWO UltraHD / Seven UltraHD ).

These devices seem a bit old, but there are still teams that support these devices and they still work very well.

  • So there is no official answer to my questions?!!

Most of these devices need at least one recent update to fix recent changes to the feeds.

Since migrating from HTTP to HTTPS, most of these devices are currently unable to connect to the feeds

For example, DM520 currently can't connect to the feed unless you manually download three add-ons so it can connect to the feed again.

    1- libcurl4_7.47.1-r0.5_mipsel.deb

    2- apt-transport-https_1.0.10.1-r0.5_mipsel.deb

    3- ca-certificates_20211016-r0.0_all.deb

Why haven't we been notified of this since the feeds have been updated and brought back again?!!

Technical support service is not available now. please try again later. :grinning_squinting_face:

Don't expect them to answer your questions, even if they continue to support all boxes, no one trusts them now, even if they produce Dreambox 8K.

  • The feed connection issue is now resolved. If you now re-flash the original image on DM520, you will now get 38 updates without installing any of the add-ons I mentioned here.

If you're unhappy, don't use it. You can leave the forum. We don't need your silly explanations. Anyone who's unhappy can make us happy by saying goodbye. It's simple

And you, who were so eager for Dreambox to fail and shut down, constantly providing your ridiculous comments. If I were the super admin, you'd be the first person kicked out of the forum

  • I would not prefer the new administration to release an open source version of DreamOS.

It will be tampered with by some amateur developers and the image will become unusable.

Look at the images of OpenATV, OpenPLI,... When installed on Dreambox devices, it is full of bugs, bugs that I have never seen before, they just fill the images with the latest updates without checking if it is compatible with the device they are intended for or not!

And with all these updates and additions being added almost weekly, the images becomes slow and unstable!

Even though DreamOS is closed source and lacks support and updates, it still has the speed, stability, and amazing picture quality that open source has not been able to achieve yet!

  • Unfortunately, many people still fail to grasp the distinction between the OE environment and Enigma2. All other brands utilize Dreambox's 2011 software with minor modifications in OE, employing outdated drivers for various brands. In contrast, Dreambox is continually evolving Enigma2, while OE is operating within the Enigma2 framework. Dreambox's Enigma is incomparable to previous Enigma versions. Moreover, Dreambox's professional developers are vastly superior to the amateur OE2 developers

  • vyperX : There's a lot of prejudice in your statement. just because other devs are not paid for working on e2 it does not mean that they are not professional devs.

What valuable contribution do you think a brand like VU+ has made to Enigma? Let's be real, they're just in it for the money. Take a look at their software updates for 2023. Open community teams like Open ATV are doing a far better job. I'm not talking about teams like Open ATV; I'm directly referring to money-grabbing brands like VU+
