DM920 brand new from amazon fails boot, no rescue mode, hangs after memory test

  • Good morning to all,

I bought a DM920 on amazon in Germany some days ago, the box arrived and seemed me brand new, not used, unfortunately at the fisrt start the box hangs with the led red blinking .

Nothing on the tv screen and the display write only "dreambox".

I tried many times to enter in rescue mode pressing immediately the button after power on, but the box dosn't enter in rescue mode and the led goes blinking red after some seconds.

so i tried to have a log via serial port with putty.

    This is the dramatic result:

  • back to your reseller amazon with an error-report so that the next one does not get a broken return box again

  • I am in contact with they, via amazon, i sent the log to the seller and i am waiting for a reply.

He asked me to try to reflash but i didn't find a way to do because the box hangs during the startup and remains in red led blinking without rescue mode...

So do you think that is a hardware problem whitout a solution?

    Thank you

  • Seems not my case, the box come directly with DHL from the phisical store of the seller.

I requested the triple tuner and the box (i can see by the label on the box) was double, the seller changed probably the tuner card...

All was in original cellophane bag, also the protective stickers was unmoved, so it was 99.9% brand new.

So what you think, it's unrecoverable defective or not?

    bye

  • Yes.. the memorychip is fixed on the mainboard and there is no option to disable it. The POST simply checks for the maximum amount of RAM and fails. It does not set an error flag but simply stops execution. You can try a thousand times (ad invinitum in fact). Only option is to have the mainboard replaced.

Unfortunately this is the second most occurring fault with these boxes..

  • Thank you for your reply. So the situation are unrecoverable...

The BGA package of theese memories are done to recover space, but i prefer to see the pins outside the case and if they are soldered... for the BGA it need only XRAY to verify the solderings...

I will resend back to the seller asking a new one working... almost booting...

Thank you and have a nice day
