What is the telnet ouput of the last install command ?

You can try this:
apt-get --reinstall install libgdbm-compat4
If not works, try also this:
apt-get --reinstall install libgdbm4
Please post the output from the telnet commands.
If you get the module error again, i think your image is broken.

telnet image was taken after both commands
showing the same error as in the image
i have the same error... and i have a clean oe2.6 installation.
so, the image is not broken.
both commands don't fix the whichdb problem.
do you have mediaportal installed?

i don't have mediaportal installed either... that's why i suspect that mediaportal installs some prerequisites that we don't have.

There are no errors seen on the screen when the plugin is installed on the device
The latest update shared gives errors after manually changing it

Da hätten wir wohl noch ne Weile gerätselt.
you must use this command:
apt-get install python-db

I found it from the repository, put it in tmp and installed it from there
no screen errors appeared after the restart
Also, an update just came on the feed
I updated it from there

Den schwarzen Bildschirm hatte man ja mit dem Original vom Feed, wo von unsplash.com keine Bilder mehr geladen wurden.
Kommt da ein Bild wenn du folgende URL im Browser aufrufst?

hatte das plugin installiert und dann das zip drueberkopiert.
im e2 log sehe ich nichts auffaelliges.
browser habe ich auf der box keinen installiert.

Kannst es auch auf dem PC oder Tablet versuchen, den Link aufzurufen.
Geht ja nur darum, ob du evtl. geblockt bist und deshalb keine Bilder kommen.

hmm, vielleicht fehlen ja noch mehr Pakete ?
Ich hab auf beiden Boxen das MP installiert.
Vielleicht kommen damit ja noch nötige Pakete mit.
Das Plugin lädt das Bild als "wallpaper" auf der Box in den Ordner "/tmp".
Liegt da eine Datei "wallpaper" ?
