When I get a similar thing with a USB stick on my DM8000 I format it as FAT 32 in a windows PC then the Dreambx will usuall format it and mount it OK so it may work with your hard drive too.

I am using a 500GB iOmega Prestige USB on mine. I just attached mine with out any partition on it to my DM7020 HD. What i did was deleting the pre-created partition on it, using EaseUS Partition Master Free Edition. Was found just fine and i could also initialize it.

I have the issue in my dm8000 Unable to initialize hard disk. Error: Creating partition failed can anyone help me to recover my hdd

My hdd of 1T i think that its broken i cant format or do something didnt message "unable to initialize hard disk. error creating partition failed"
Im thinkign to buy new one but not 3,5 i heard that 2,5 its better for less noise and less hot inside the dream. Its is possible install without any problem that kind of hdd.
