dm500 hd s2 hangs on power-on

  • Hi,

    When i power up, i get only the green led on. Normally, it should switch to a blinking red led, and the turning green again when working.

    There is nothing happening, no screen is coming up, everything seems dead. Also the fan is not running also, and when i leave the power on for a while, the board is heating up.

    I recently measured the temperature (software) and the box kept running with a temperature measured around 40 degree.

    Under the fan are some red leds, that blinks always in the same sequence.

    Just wondering what if the flashing of those leds could indicate what is going on ??

    leds are numbered d200 to d204
    the sequence

    11011

    11010

    11011 fast flash)
    11100
    10100
    01111

    01110 (fast flash)
    01011

    And then the leds stops flashing.

    anyone getting a clue what that means ?

    In the meantime the dm500hd keeps dead.

  • Flash image with dreamup and usb or make a bootlog!

  • Running on linux only at home. Looking at getting the serial connection to a virtualbox image.

    But i dont think it will do something usefull.

    When i connect the serial port to my linux box, i see the following in my minicom session when turning on the dm500 :

    <SNIP>

    RC1=00000005
    RC2=0000001F

    BL=00000007
    RC1=00000006
    RC2=0000001F

    Dreambox DM500HD

    FIRST STAGE 1.2/400 {BO2345

    and then it hangs.

    googling to flash the first stage stuff ??

  • Managed to connect with dreamup (in virtualbox)

    But when i flashed the latest official NFI, i got a message similar to :

    wrong architecture, box may be unusable.

    I connected it to the network, but did not find its mac in the leases

    booting in linux, minicom gave the same output as in previous reply

  • got it working again.

    the setup : fc20 as a host

    connect usb cable and boot dm500

    dmesg -> look for ttyUSB0

    VBoxManage list usbhost

    and look for the dm500 box

    create usb filter in virtual box (i used the serial number as shown in previous command)

    boot Win 8.1 in virtualbox
    ruin dreamup as admin user

    if you are lucky, you will get a connection (if not retry ...)

    I had to flash the 500HD officiel nfi, instead of the 500hd s2 image (which is the one i have)

    (the s2 images gave the wrong arch error)

    i got a 'flash ok'. switched it off and on, and YEAA, back in the game

    still want to know what corrupted the image in the first place .. (heat ??) (the box was really hot. the fan only starts to late in the boot process, and the board was heating up, because it was powered on, but hang during first boot stage... )

    thx for the help.

    Will post the VB stuff, when i manage to reproduce it properly.

    run virtualbox as root (too lazy to add my account to the right groups)

  • If you can only flash a 500hd image on a v2 box then that usually means, that you HAVE no v2.... Just connect to the box with telnet and type df -h and post the output here. There should be 1024MB flash (ubi0:rootfs). The command "free" should show you 1024mb of ram (or at least 512mn, don't know exactly, because some ram will be hidden from linux)
    If this is not the case, you do not own a v2

  • And just in case that was no typing mistake:
    500HD v2 is something else than 500HD s2. The later is no official model name, but might be a name used by your shop to show that you own the Sat-Version (DVB-S2) and not the Cable-Version of the 500HD :winking_face: The 500HD V2 is a refreshed model with more Flash and RAM as Tode wrote.
