Stream over internet

  • Is it possible with a Dreambox DM800 HD PVR?
Works over LAN so in theory should be fine if you can get onto your LAN remotely right?
Are there any free DNS services like mycloudnas.com (I use that to stream from my NAS unit)?

  • Current dreamboxes do not have the power to recode the stream. If you do not have at least 10MBit of upstream, then it will not work. Of course you can use a pc to recode and stream, but then this pc has to run round the clock

I have something like 150mb/15mb down/up so it should be ok.

How to go about configuring the box/router?

    Hi,

no sorry, i may have been a little unprecise there.
As User you usually access the webinterface via http, or way better, via https (standard port for https is 443).
I guess you know the "Playlists" you can get via the webinterface to play stuff in VLC.
So for the webinterface you use 80/http or better 443/https.
For the actual stream data 8001 has to be used/forwarded.

Ok so I need to forward port 8001 on my router right?

    Thanks.

    Port 443 & 8001.
Don't forward to port 80 from wan(internet). That's very insecure.

If you access from internet, then use https://publicip or dns name (don't forget the s)
public ip or dns name = the ip address you get from your isp, or the dns name you connect to your public ip.
Your browser can complain about a insecure https certificate, but hey it's your dreambox with a secure connection, so it's ok.
Always configure webinterface on dreambox to use password when you forward it in your router.

  • Personally i use openvpn connection instead of open ports to my network.
And there it's possible i use new XBMC 12 (Frodo) with Vu+/Enigma2 PVR addon
